So I accidentally read this series out of order. Last year I started with the second book and then read the third, but now I have read all three books in the Ashbury/Brookfield series.
I always find it a bit weird reading a book that's formatted with letters and notes, because it makes the book feel so much shorter then it actually is. It also makes it harder to put down because there are no actual chapters.
Feeling Sorry for Celia was a pretty funny read. The funniest scene in the whole book would have to be when Elizabeth and her new friend went in search of Celia and they acted like they were covert spies on a dangerous mission.
My favorite part of the book would have to be the notes that Elizabeth’s mother would leave for her all over the house. Along with the letters that were exchanged between Elizabeth and her pen pal Christina.
Personally I don't think I could have put up with a friend like Celia; one who was always going missing and just generally acting crazy2.
My least favorite part of the book would have to be the snarky notes that came from the different societies that usually had something negative to say about Elizabeth or how she was handling something.
While the conclusion of the book was slightly predictable, I would definitely recommend giving the whole Ashbury/Brookfield series a shot. Because they're all very funny, with a cast of slightly odd characters.
Feeling Sorry for Celia earns 3 out of 5 pineapples.
