Guest Post: Cesya Cuono (Author of Elemental Reality) On World Building

Today I am pleased to have Cesya Cuono, author of Elemental Reality, dropping by to chat about world building for the Elemental Reality Blog Tour. Hope ya'll enjoy her lovely post. =)
Hello! I'm Cesya, as you probably already know. I have a unique name and it's pronounced Sesha just to clear the confusion up. I have my BA in Business Administration and am certified in Multi-Media/Production makeup artistry. I wasn't always a big fan of writing--funny, eh?--but it surely has grown on me! I love getting lost is these make-believe worlds. Once I get to talking about it you'd actually believe the place was real. With that said I leave you with this advice: Ideas pop into your head at the strangest of times. Don't let them go. Write them down right away and try to make a story out of it. Who knows, it may be worth while. (from Goodreads)

  1. World Building
I had so much fun building the world in my book. Ardmore is a real place in Pennsylvania but I added more to it. I had fun creating new aspects of the town and writing in new featured to enhance it. Tehokas City was an even better city to create. I got to have fun with this one. Because of my characters abilities, I had to come up with a good place where they could be themselves and not have the fear of being exposed to others. I ran the idea around my head that I wanted it to be in an actual place but hidden then erased that idea. Their city had to be amongst itself and anything they needed could be found in that city. So was born Tehokas City and the people that inhabited it. Writing this novel really let my inner creativity shine. I always knew I had a great imagination solely based on some crazy, out-there dreams but never did anything about it. By creating this world, it’s made space in my brain (not that there’s much space left) for more ideas to lodge. I’ll leave you with some advice when creating a world. Think of a place you’ve been or want to visit. If you had the power to physically create a new world based off of one place what would it look like? What would the people, creatures, beings, etc. Look like? How would you make that place unique? Everyone has the ability to dream up a new world but some don’t dive deep enough into their thoughts to find it. Try it sometime. You may be surprised at what you’d find.
