In My Mailbox (12)

In My Mailbox was started by The Story Siren and inspired by Alea of Pop Culture Junkie. Sadly the only books I order are those that are hard to find. The following books are from the library and bookstores.

Library Last Week (I forgot to publish it last weekend):
Author: L.A. Meyer
Title: Mississippi Jack
Series: A Bloody Jack Adventure (book 5)
Number of Pages: 624
Publication Date: 2007

There she tricks the tall-tale hero Mike Fink out of his flatboat, equips it as a floating casino-showboat, and heads south to New Orleans, battling murderous bandits, British soldiers, and other scoundrels along the way. Will Jacky's carelessness and impulsive actions ultimately cause her beloved Jaimy to be left in her wake? Bold, daring, and downright fun, Jacky Faber proves once again that with resilience and can-do spirit, she can wiggle out of any scrape . . . well, almost."

Left to her own devices, Aerin grew up wild, doing her best to live up to her reputation as the disappointment of the realm. But little did the young princess know the long-dormant powers of her mother would wield their own destiny, and leave Aerin with a duty to her scornful homeland that she couldn't refuse."

Author: Kristin Cashore
Title: Graceling
Series: Seven Kingdoms (book 1)
Publication Date: 2008
Synopsis: "In the course of her dark and eventful tale, Cashore plays with the idea of awkwardness, how at a certain age gifts and talents are burdens, how they make it impossible to feel comfortable in the world. And in this she writes a fairly realistic portrait of teenage life into the baroque courts of her outlandish kingdoms…In many respects Graceling is a study of mysterious angers: it offers a perfect parable of adolescence, as its characters struggle with turbulent emotions they must learn to control. The consequences are more tangible than they usually are in more mundane settings—if Katsa loses control, she breaks someone's jaw by accident—but the principle is the same. The teenage characters in this novel, like some we may know in life, grow into their graces. They realize that their monstrous individuality is not so monstrous after all."

I just realized that I am finally caught in the A Bloody Jack Adventure series, now I'm just going to have to wait for the seventh book to come out at the end of this month.

I was just about ready to go and check out my books, when I glanced at the shelf and there was Blood and Chocolate, which I haven't read in ages (I really should just buy it next time I see it).
The Hero and the Crown was awesome and I'm currently working on a review for it and Mississippi Jack and a few others from the week before that.
Can’t wait to see what everyone else got book wise this week.

  5. The Bloody Jack Adventures by LA Meyer is my absolute favorite YA series. I got the first two books from the library but gave in and bought the whole series in hardback. I'll be reading this series again and again! Glad to see them on someone else's list!
