Blog Tour Review: Pure *ARC*

There is need. And then there is Fate...

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon... and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... or killing her.

When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.
First Sentence (ARC):

I stared at the ceiling of gymnasium, little black splotches dancing in front of me.

Y'all probably remember how much I loved Half-Blood, if not you can check out my review of it, so imagine how excited I was at the chance to read Pure (so very excited).

Since I really, really liked Pure I am having the hardest time writing up my review for it. I did have a couple of things I did not like, but I generally loved the entire book. I also cannot wait to find out what will happen to Alex, Aiden, and even Seth in Deity.
Where to start on what happened in Pure. *ponders for a minute*
I really liked the direction that Ms. Armentrout took in the second Covenant book, and while some questions from the first book were answered-like, more on the apollyon thing-the plot became a little more, shall we say complicated.
One thought is just a burning a hole in my head after finishing Pure would have to be what is Lucian hiding and what is he agenda. I just feel that he has some secret-maybe nefarious-plan for Alex and the council.

As with Half-Blood, Jennifer's writing just blew me away and had my eyes glued to the page. Even though I was not surprised when one character died, I was quite saddened because they were one of my favorites, but I thought that his death definitely helped to move the plot along and set things into motion. So, while it was sad about what happened, it definitely fit into the story and threw a few wrenches in to Alex's life and friendships.

Alex, while she was still an awesome character to read about she did leave me quite frustrated with her many times. What frustrated me the most about her character in Pure was her indecisiveness when it came to her feelings for both Aiden and Seth. Even with that little annoyance, what I really like about her is that she's kick-butt.
I do find myself liking Aiden more than Seth, for a couple of reasons. The biggest would have to be that he does not annoy me as much as Seth does, and what he did for Alex in the end of the book definitely scored him some brownie points. I just think he's a nice character.
Seth, I have zero love/like for him. His arrogant attitude just makes me want to kick him. And if I did not like him in the brief time he appeared in Half-Blood, by the time Pure ended I could not stand him because I am pretty sure something bad is going to happen when Alex awakens as the other apollyan and he knows what will happen.  Although he was beginning to show a more likable side to himself as he I'll hold final judgment till later.

Gosh, my favorite thing would have to be the end of the book when the action and danger as the daimons plot came to fruition. I could not tear my eyes away from the book as the lives of various characters were held in the balance, especially the parts with the furies. Loved it. Ms. Armentrout definitely knows how to write some thrilling fight scenes that will leave you wanting more.

While I did really enjoy reading the second Covenant book, Pure. The one thing that I could have done without/less of would have to be all the kissing. The reason I mention this as my least favorite part of the book is because so much more could have been covered and things would have moved a little faster along (like, the whole thing that Alex learned from her mom in book one). Even though I felt their were was a little too much in the way of Alex and her love life, I still really enjoyed reading this one and think that y'all will too.

There is some language in Pure, but nothing worse than what was in the previous book.

The one thing that really needs mentioning in the content section would have to be: One of the pures tries to ruin Alex by giving her "Aphrodesian Brew"-basically turns you into a crazed hormone driven crazy. And how she ends up "attacking" Seth do to the drug running through her system.

Final Verdict: Pure will have you wishing to have book three at hand (like me).

Pure earns 4.5 out of 5 pineapples.
