Marne's telepathy is too weak for his Naratsset culture, so he is sold into slavery and expects to die at the hands of human owners--until he meets a human child who begs her father to save him. Her kindness introduces Marne to a new world--one where he would risk his life to save a human from her own people's abuse and the stars' songs can touch even a deaf girl and a defective telepath. When an intergalactic terrorist organization kills Kyra's father, driving her mother to madness, Kyra and Marne only have each others' friendship--until even that is threatened by the danger surrounding the Starbard heritage. But can the two friends, not good enough for either of their cultures or families, manage to keep each other safe when several different worlds threaten their lives?

I admit that I put off reading Silent Starsong till the last minute because I misplaced it...in a stack of books. While I may have started on this one a little close to my tour date, I think it helped me to fully appreciate it because I completely forgot what the book was supposed to be about-and that's the way I like reading my books, as a surprise.   

So, the question remains, what was it about T.J. Wooldridge's writing that made Silent Starsong such an interesting and good read, well, that would be that her writing is both visual and well thought out as she brings the story of Kyra to life.
    There are many, many reasons for one to enjoy the story of Kyra, but the chief among them is seeing how she began to realize her true potential, potential that her father always believed in, and that her deafness does not make her incapable of carrying on the Starbard line. From the very beginning of the book, you see two different sides, via her parents, on how they view her deafness and cope with it. Seeing the way her mom and dad acted left me happy, on one account, and saddened, on the other. Her dad was one of the reasons I enjoyed this book so much. I loved he he always tried to get her to see how special she was and how he strove to to help her see that. Now her mom... while I'm sure she loved Kyra, she had the strangest way of showing it that just saddened me. I won't go into details but I wish she had been more like her husband.

I really thought T.J. Wooldridge did a great job of creating the beautiful story about Kyra and the world she lived in. It was interesting to see how polar opposite her parents were when it came to seeing to their children and accepting or rising against the norm of the world on which they live. I guess you could say it was the little pieces of the world and it's setting that drew me into this book, added in with the author's writing. But, while I did enjoy the setting and the uniqueness of the worlds within, it was the relationship between Kyra and her father, as well, as the one between her and Marne that really made me follow in love with this book. While there were things that broke my heart in regards to these two relationships, it is the reading of them and the way they unfolded that made for great reading (wipes away watery eyes).

Final Verdict: Silent Starsong- Heart-aching and uplifting, this book is just simply beautiful and well worth checking out.
