Sure, the glass castle floating over Evan’s head is a little unsettling, but that’s the least of his worries. With each step inside the Dungeon of Dreadful Dreams, he must battle against his worst nightmares. One after the other, wispy smoke-filled bull sharks come at him — he must remember they’re only illusions pulled from his imagination by those dreaded shadowlike hands. If only the vengeful dragon circling above was also an illusion and didn’t have his mind set on destroying the one person who can control him: Emrys.
Inside the castle’s glass tower, Emrys sleeps in an eternal slumber, and Evan’s uncertain whether he can save the great wizard. Especially now that Emrys’ former student, the Lady of the Lake, has joined forces with the cunning immortal Alamaz. Here we are at the third installment in H.B. Bolton's delightfully adventurous Relics of Mysticus. After the ending of Trickster's Totem I was quite excited to be able to participate in the tour for book three...and continue reading Claire and Evan's adventures.

The Dragon's Egg has so many things that I personally enjoyed about it. I loved that this time Evan and Claire's journey through Sagass took them to the realm of Medieval Legends and forced them to cross paths with Merlin. As one who is quite the fan of anything related to King Arthur, Merlin and all things within that tale, so, yes I was exciting and curious to see how she would meld it into the current story line and how it would hold up.
   Okay, so, while there was no King Arthur, which I can live with, I really enjoyed the visual aspect of the medieval realm of Sagaas. The way Ms. Bolton adapted parts of the story to fit into the world of her book really caught my attention. But, what I really enjoyed most about the medieval realm would have to be where they ventured to save Emrys. Talk about creepy, yet oh so fitting. Seriously though, I have really enjoyed seeing all the various myths and legends that H.B. Bolton has used within the world she created in her books. The subtle changes and the interlocking way it works with the overall story-line has made for some interesting reading.

While I did enjoy seeing The Dragon's Egg take a foray into Medieval Legends and that it brought in Merlin, what I really enjoyed about the third installment of the Relics of Mysticus would have to be what was revealed about Claire and Evan's parents and their past. I don't want to give anything away concerning what was actually disclosed in the book because that would be uncool, but I do want to say that what was revealed does bring more clarity to why they were chosen. Also, I feel that it does fit well with the story and proves some of my secret hunches that I've had for some time.
    All in all, the latest twist within the story-line and how it pertains to the characters gave the series a whole new depth and has me quite excited to see how the rest of that part of the story will play out in the end. So many questions left to be answered.

I'm pretty sure H.B. Bolton is trying to test my patience with the ending. Because the book leaves off right when things are really starting to come together...and I not sure how patient I can be waiting to know what is going to happen next. *note, I am not patient in the least* While the cliff-hanger ending is probably the thing I liked least about The Dragon's Egg, I am quite excited and looking forward to the fourth book.

Final Verdict: The Dragon's Egg- This is one series that just gets better with each book. Definitely excited to see where H.B. Bolton will take the story and characters in the next installment.
